Dorchester's councillors have decided to spend £1.4million on the preparatory works for Phase 2 of the Charles Street development.

The works include moving the Dorchester Family Church from Acland road to Trinity Street as well as securing rights of way for the general public through the Tudor and Hardye arcades, some traffic regulation orders, lighting and electricity supply.

The figure was agreed at the council's executive committee meeting on Tuesday (12th Feb 2013) afternoon. It's £600,000 lower than the original estimate proposed last October by developers Simons which had to revise the original plans which it said had become unviable in the economic climate.

The works will move the second phase of development at Charles Street forward, making way for the new retail facilities and appartments.
