Dorchester dealership, Howards Dorchester, is urging local drivers to prepare their cars for the onset of winter as temperatures are due to plummet in the coming weeks.

In the colder months, almost half of car accidents are caused by skidding, making the notoriously tricky London Road even more hazardous, and once the mercury drops below 7˚C, the amount of grip offered by ordinary tyres also drops considerably.

These are just two of the reasons why Howards Dorchester is strongly recommending drivers invest in winter tyres, but the benefits don't end there – the dealership has compiled three more reasons to encourage motorists in Dorchester to make the switch:

•    Braking distances are reduced by up to 20 per cent (11 metres)

•    Increased grip levels of up to 50 per cent in icy conditions

•    Money is saved in the long run as the life of summer tyres is extended

The dealership, based on London Road, is also reminding local drivers about its Winter Safety Check service, which includes testing the car's battery, lights and brakes.

Greg Croker, sales manager at Howards Dorchester, said: "We can't emphasise enough how much of an impact winter tyres have on cars once the temperature drops. The figures don't lie and we want to do everything we can to make sure Dorchester drivers are as safe as possible on our roads."

Drivers looking to replace their car with a more robust vehicle for the winter can make the most of the Peugeot 2008 and 3008 models, which both come with all-weather tyres and Grip Control on certain trim levels.

Greg Croker, continued: "Sales of the 2008 and 3008 have been strong since they launched and we're now seeing a steady rise in motorists wanting a vehicle with more grip, especially for those notoriously tricky roads which become perilous when winter sets in."
