The work of a housing association goes far beyond providing affordable accommodation.
Colette McKenney welcomes Stuart Dawson
Magna Housing Association has a dedicated money matters team, which visits residents all across Dorset and Devon, to give benefits, budgeting and money advice to prevent them from falling into arrears and financial difficulty.
The team has a new member; Stuart Dawson, who has joined Magna from West Dorset District Council. Dorchester-based Stuart has a wealth of knowledge in benefit advice, council tax and IT systems having worked for the council for 12 years.
The role will involves helping tenants claim the benefits to which they are entitled, financial planning, budgeting, supporting people with change of circumstance, pension credit and working with agencies like local food banks and Citizens Advice Bureau.
Stuart commented, 'I enjoy helping people. Many people have read about the changes regarding the welfare reform and this has caused some people to be confused. I'm pleased to be joining a dedicated team to help people understand the changes and work with them on a one to one basis to resolve any financial issues they may have.'
Colette McKenney, Magna income manager, commented, 'We are delighted to have Stuart on board to help deliver this high quality and important service.
The role of the money matters advisor not only assists and supports our tenants to manage their finances, but can also resolve issues that may previously have resulted in expensive court costs.'
