CHARLES Harbord, whose daughters are friends of Prince Harry, has been found dead from a gunshot wound at his home near Gillingham.

He is believed to have shot himself after becoming depressed about financial problems.

Mr Harbord, 68, died at Wyke Hall where he lived with his wife Sarah-Juliet.

His daughter Astrid is a close friend of the Duchess of Cambridge.

Both Astrid and her younger sister Davina are friends of Prince Harry.

Dorset Police said the death last week was not being treated as suspicious. An inquest was opened and adjourned in Dorchester on 24th May.

Mr Harbord had previously lived in South Wiltshire.

His interests included jazz and he was a classic car enthusiast.

He edited a magazine called Cars for the Connoisseur.

Racing driving legend Stirling Moss and his wife Susie described Mr Harbord as their good friend.

I knew Charles quite well and used to 'chat' with him at the various classic car shows and related motoring events. I last said hello to him at the prestigious Salon Prive event at Syon Park where he seemed in good spirits. I was a subscriber to "C for the C" magazine he produced and hope that someone continues this excellent monthly car mag. My deepest sypanthies go out to his two daughters and his family. R.i.P.
