It is a busy time for Mark and Emily at The Gaggle of Geese Pub in Buckland Newton near Dorchester.
Alongside preparations for the Charity Poultry Auction on Sunday 11th September 2011, they have been voted as a top 100 Famous Pub by The Telegraph. Most recently though Famous Grouse have published their top 30 in which they have come an impressive 8th place.
The more I hear about this pub the closer I get to the door with my wallet, car keys and my ever present appetite.
The menu appears to truly make of the best of local produce and they have recently been accredited to the Direct from Dorset scheme which highlights all the wonderful produce and suppliers within the county.
The Gaggle of Geese is a back to basics large pub with a skittle alley, five acres of land including a wonderful orchard and paddocks where the twice yearly charity poultry auction is held.
The main poultry auction will commence at 10am with the furred, boxed livestock and caged auction running parallel from 12 noon.
There will be a Farmers Market and Car Boot sale in the orchard. BBQ and hog roast throughout the day. Also refreshments a plenty including teas, coffees, beer and the all important cider tent.
This Septembers auction the nominated charities are Julia's House Hospice and Dorset Alzheimer's Society.
Entries close on 2nd September.

I can vouch for this place, it's really different. Its like being in someones front room. But not in a bad way. The food is spectacular and the people are lovely. I'll definately be coming along to the auction day.
