My mum loves it
As the previous reviews have mentioned it is popular with the older generation. The room is historical and the costumes very sweet. Good tea and generous slices of cake. The are a lot of stairs to negotiate so would not be suitable for a person with mobilty issues.

Quaint tearoom
I have been frequenting the Oak Room for years now. The waitress costumes are above and beyond the call of duty. They really seem to cater for the older generation, indulging their need for small portions of plain food and of course tea and cake. This is where I can begin my praise. Homemade cakes and the array of hot beverages along with the unusual setting make this cafe a must for all visitors and residents alike.

A step back in time!
A visit to the Oak Room tea room in Dorchester is like a step back in time! The waitresses wear old-fashioned pinnies and serve cucumber sandwiches, cream teas and home made cakes. The Oak Room also does good, simple hot food like soup and jacket potatoes, so it's a great place to stop for something warming while out shopping in Dorchester.
The Oak Room itself also played an important part in Dorchester's history having hosted Judge Jeffreys' "Bloody Assizes" in the seventeenth century, and I think this makes a trip to this tea room a little bit more special than visiting your average coffee shop chain.
