Dorchester police investigate more church lead thefts

Police in Dorchester are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward after lead was stolen from the roof of Abbotsbury Church in two separate incidents.

The first theft took place sometime between midnight on Thursday, 2 December and 2pm on Sunday, 5 December.

The second theft occurred sometime between 11pm on Sunday, 5 December and 1.30pm on Monday, 6 December.

Officers from Dorchester Safer Neighbourhood Team quickly responded by carrying out additional patrols in and around Abbotsbury Church.

The team has also helped the church community to arrange additional lighting and a security alarm.

Inspector Les Fry said: “These thefts have been very sad for the Abbotsbury Church community and I’m keen to hear from anyone who has any information or may have witnessed any suspicious behaviour around the church in recent weeks.”

The theft of lead is the latest in a series that his hit the area in recent weeksn and months,
