The planning application for a new Lidl store in Dorchester has now been approved. A previous plan was refused by the district council last year. This latest scheme secures around £500,000 of private sector-funded road improvements at the difficult junction of The Grove and the C12.

Another supermarket? And Lidl too. Whatever next, Aldi and Primark coming into the county town. Watch those Waitrose shoppers quake. But really, do we need Lidl?

It's all about choice isn't it? Tesco and Waitrose have their own target markets, Lidl wouldn't have been trying so hard to develop this site if they didn't think people would shop there. But we don't have to do we?
