Mr Chisholm is as passionate about his role as town crier as he is about being a caring citizen of Dorchester. Thanks to Alistair's ongoing interest in all matters concerning Dorchester, I and many of my friends have been made fully aware of the issues concerning Dorchester and it's citizens right to be heard. Unlike the poster of this topic Alistair is both our town crier and a well informed local and not just someone with a big mouth.

I agree with 'Dreamatrix' and wonder if 'dorsetwoman' is a politician herself who is upset because there's someone like Alistair who is actually willing to challenge the local establishment for the betterment of the town rather than just whinge about it.
Well done Alistair - you're a true representative of the local people - keep up the good work.

As Chairman of the AHGTC ( Association of Town Criers) I am acquainted with the Rules of Membership for the Guild. Specifically, Rule 3 viz "No member of the Guild will lend their services to any party political or sectarian organisation and will avoid any public statement (as a Town Crier) in support of or comment on any such causes." Coogar, I think your words about Dorset Woman are unfair. You shouldn't be resorting to name calling. And in any case, this isn't just about Dorchester, it's about all the electors in West Dorset. Other people have views on the council offices plan other than people living in the town.
Just to make it clear - Anyone who works for the Govt., LA's, Police, Firefighters Prison Service or the Armed Services is not allowed to express their political allegencies at work or in their paid role. A Town Crier who is paid with Taxpayers money is subject to the same rules. My question is - Is he abusing his position ? - nothing more.

Continued from above -
If someone wants to get involved in Politics they should stand for Election, and see how many people support them....and that applies to all of you - Put up or shut up - we need new Councillors - so where are you.........

Report@W_Boot: Firstly, do not tell me what I can or cannot post to a public forum. Leave that to the moderators. Further, The Town Crier issue is one for Dorchester alone, not a West Dorset issue. you seem to be confusing this thread with the one about Charles Street.
@dorsetwoman: The reason I will never get involved in politics to the point of standing for election is that I prefer to remain free to express my own personal opinions on a variety of subjects. I will not go the 'Independent' route either, as many of those seem to end up in the pocket of one major party or another eventually.
Coogar - I did not say what you could or couldn't post on a public forum. I said I THINK your words were unfair and that you shouldn't resort to name calling. I have no problem with freedom of speech (thank God we're not in Libya, not something to joke about really) but when you start getting abusive, even if the other side is abusive or appears to be dense, it just weakens your argument. All you've done is taken a pop at anyone who dares to express a different opinion to you or questions your logic, on this thread or any other.
