popular American tradition of show choirs, recently made popular in the UK by
TV shows like ‘Glee’ and ‘Don’t Stop Believing’, has reached our county town in
the form of The Harmonious Funk Choir, and they are looking for singers...
The new show choir, directed by
husband and wife Ben and Hanna Trevorrow, will perform fresh, original arrangements
of pop, rock and soul. Songs will range
from classics by The Beatles, Stevie Wonder and Jackson 5 to modern hits by
Take That, Coldplay and Alicia Keys.
The Harmonious Funk
Choir are seeking new singers of all ages to join their Dorchester based choir. Rehearsals will take place in three groups; junior
(8-13 yrs), youth (14-18yrs) and adult (18+), that will perform both independently
and together. Members say that the
contemporary style means that all singers, no matter how experienced, can enjoy
their passion for singing in a relaxed and friendly environment.
The group aims to
produce unique, harmonised, vocal performances of popular music. The weekly rehearsals will include
performance direction, singing tuition and socialising, with the key aim of encouraging
people to enjoy and feel confident about singing. There will be no auditions for the choir, and
due to the nature of the music, all abilities will be able to make a positive
contribution to the sound.
Director Ben
Trevorrow said: “There is nothing like the feeling of performing with other
people - it gives you such a buzz! Both Hanna and I are experienced music
teachers and are really looking forward to bringing a new style of vocal group
to the community. We are hoping it will
become a large and vibrant choir where everyone has lots of fun”.
Rehearsals for the junior
choir will take place at the United Church in Dorchester on Mondays and the
youth and adult choirs at The Thomas Hardye School, on Tuesdays. Anyone
interested in joining the choir should apply via the choir’s website (www.harmoniousfunkchoir.co.uk).
