Dorchester entrepreneur Nicki Grainger recently launched ‘The Cherry Closet’, an online vintage clothing boutique which has already had a handbag featured in Mizz Magazine.

The site went live three months ago, and aims to encourage women to have fun with their fashion. One reason the shop has been so successful is because buying vintage is an eco-friendly way to shop in a modern day of disposable fashion.

All items are handpicked for their individual style, ranging from 1920's - 1980's and are available in sizes 8 - 18. Only last month Nicki visited Los Angeles and sourced some items from Hollywood - including ex-production wardrobe items from the likes of Disney, ABC studios and US Soap Operas. She intends to start selling her items at vintage and antique collectors’ fairs in the county very soon.

Nicki said: “I have been interested in fashion my whole life, particularly influenced by eras from the past. Growing up, my mum threw endless and extravagant fancy dress parties, so to be honest I got a taste of drama, design and ‘getting into character’ from an early age - which stayed with me into adulthood!”

“I went on to get a degree in Fashion Writing, and after working as an intern at magazines including Elle and Instyle, and for a variety of websites, I decided to combine my experience, knowledge and passion and set up 'The Cherry Closet'. I had been collecting various accessories and clothes for a few years and wanted to offer a collection of one-off, unique items at affordable prices.”

Local people have been very supportive of Nicki’s new business. They have been offering ‘The Cherry Closet’ vintage items that have been sat in their wardrobes for years. They know that their items will go to good homes and have been asking Nicki to give a donation to their favourite charity in return.
