I love the Sienna. I find the frontage a bit off-putting, because you can't properly see inside the window from the outside pavement. But if you get over your shyness and venture in, it's a fabulous place to be. I was lucky enough to be taken there for lunch by an old friend who insisted on paying, so it was win-win all round for me. It's one of those special places that if you like food, you just have to try. It's not the cheapest place in town but if you want cheap, go down the road to Spoons!

Lucky me, I got taken to Sienna for my birthday this week, and it was fabulous. Dorset's only Michelin-starred restaurant did not disappoint. It's a tiny, very intimate venue, with warm and unobtrusive staff. We were really tempted to go for the tasting menu but chose to have the more traditional three courses instead. I had the sauteed squid with slow cooked chorizo, then an amazing buttery partridge and topped it all off with a plate of Westcountry cheeses and homemade digestive biscuits which were out of this world. Add that to a fantastic bottle of South African Viognier and a very handsome man paying the bill and you have the recipe for a perfect birthday dinner. Some might have been put out that the waitress kept putting down my dish in front of my boyfriend, and vice versa, but that did not matter as all we had to do was swap the plates over. So we tipped in full as we had a great night out thanks to all at Sienna.
The interior of the Sienna is quite unassuming and very minimal, lots of basic modern decoration and a small number of tables quite close together. However, as the only Michelin starred restaurant in Dorset, what really counts here is the food, and it really is amazing. The tasting menu in particular is brilliant as you get to sample so much of the amazing food on the menu which would otherwise be hard to choose from. Considering the quality, around £40 for 3 courses is also amazing value considering you would expect to pay almost double that for such fine cuisine. It is worth noting that its not really the kind of place for families, more a kind of perfect dating spot, although they will cater for children over 12.
You know youre in for a treat when youve entered the Sienna. We came here as we were informed of its Michelin Star status. The menu was very creative, almost make-believe; Tahitian vanilla cheesecake with blackcurrant jelly & poached apple dont think ill ever experience anything like it again.
